Unifying Across Differences: The GORM Mission

What GORM Does:

GORM Media DAC, operating under the name GORM, is an award-winning social enterprise with a compelling mission — to unify across differences and advance belonging for marginalised communities. At our core, we aim to spark a movement of unity and shared understanding through innovative digital media and evidence-based intercultural training and consultancy.

Social Impact:

Our impact is two-fold. On a bottom-up level, we support diverse communities in telling their stories through film and digital media, and access programmes. Simultaneously, on a top-down level, we collaborate with clients and partners, predominantly from the creative industry, to foster inclusive cultures through evidence-based intercultural training and consultancy.

The Unique Blend of Expertise

What Makes GORM Unique:

What sets us apart is our unique blend of expertise in creative media and social psychology. By combining these disciplines, we contribute to the sustainable goals of reducing inequality (Goal 10) and promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions (Goal 16). We believe in the synergy of experiential expertise (human stories) and industry expertise (evidence-based diversity and inclusion knowledge) to craft solutions for our community.

The Origin: A Personal Journey

The Genesis of GORM:

The roots of GORM trace back to the personal journey of our founder, Mamobo Ogoro, who, despite calling Ireland home, experienced the challenges of being part of a migrant household. Driven by a deep curiosity about societal prejudice, Mamobo pursued a PhD in social psychology, uncovering the role of media narratives in perpetuating prejudice against underrepresented communities. In 2020, armed with these findings, the decision to take action was made, leading to the establishment of GORM.

Fundraising and Economic Climate: As a social enterprise, our approach to fundraising aligns with our commitment to social impact. Currently exploring opportunities such as impact investing and venture philanthropy, we acknowledge the challenges posed by economic uncertainties.

The Future Is Bright

Challenges of a Young Entrepreneur: Mamobo started GORM at the age of 24, and it presented challenges of navigating unfamiliar territory in the business world. Addressing ageism and staying true to the community we serve are ongoing battles. However, our commitment to bridging divides and fostering unity through GORM serves as a driving force.

Future Plans: Looking ahead, we are expanding our services to address a critical yet often overlooked aspect of diversity and inclusion—intercultural training. The focus is on developing tailored programs for business clients, particularly in media, marketing, and advertising. These programs aim to equip teams and leadership with the tools to navigate diverse cultures, create inclusive campaigns, and build bridges in business.
